They built a wall to shield them from the horror that held sway
The fear was contagious and kept rising day by day

The fear of destruction started driving them insane
They heard the monster trawl outside the walls in the rain
In desperation they picked out a maiden to be slain
And threw her off the wall and waited for her bane

But the monster was the fear that resided in them all
And in worshipping the monster, they were at its beck and call
